Sixteen Eighty Nine AD Limited (“1689AD”, “we”) is an architecture and design studio in Nairobi, Kenya. This notice explains what personal data we collect through 1689ad.com, why, and the choices you have. We are the data controller for this information.
What we collect
- When you contact us. If you email us or message us on WhatsApp, we receive your name, your contact details and whatever you choose to tell us about your project.
- When you visit the site. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not identify you personally.
We do not ask for sensitive personal data, and we ask that you do not send it to us.
Why we use it
We use your details only to reply to you, to discuss and deliver the work you ask us about, and to keep a record of our correspondence. We rely on your consent when you contact us, and on our legitimate interest in running and improving the website. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
Your messages pass through the services we use to run the studio: our email provider, WhatsApp (Meta) when you message us there, and Cloudflare, which hosts and protects this website. Some of these providers store data outside Kenya. We use providers that apply recognised safeguards to the data they hold.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries that do not lead to work for up to two years, then delete them. Records of projects we carry out are kept for as long as the law and our professional obligations require.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019, you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Email info@1689ad.com and we will respond within the time the law allows.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) of Kenya.
